Die casting is a manufacturing process where molten metal is injected under high pressure between two molds. The die casting process is ideal for companies that need a reliable, high-quality source of complex metal parts in large quantities. The die casting process is most commonly used to produce light metal original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts for automobiles, power vehicles, appliances, motorcycles, sanitary equipment and other applications.

Die Casting Technology

There are two types of die casting technology: cold chamber die casting and hot chamber die casting. Each of these two methods has different production advantages.

Hot Chamber Casting

This method is mainly used to cast low melting point metals such as zinc, lead, and tin.

The metal is heated, melted, and transferred to an injector inside the equipment.

The melting furnace and the pot for the molten metal are built into the casting equipment.

The casting equipment is sometimes called a gooseneck equipment due to the shape of the injection pipe.

Cold Chamber Casting

This is the preferred casting method for high melting point metals such as aluminum, magnesium, copper and high aluminum zinc alloys.

A furnace outside the casting equipment is used to melt the raw metal.

A ladle or other transfer device is used to transfer the molten metal from the melting pot to the injection chamber.

This method uses higher temperatures and pressures than hot chamber casting.
