Precision die-casting professional manufacturer
General Application or Use-
To transfer power from a driving shaft to a driven shaft.
To connect or couple two separately manufactured parts such as an output motor shaft and a generator.
To introduce extra flexibility in transferring power in space constrained situations.
To introduce overload protection.
Use flexible couplings to reduce the transfer of shock loads from one shaft to another.
1. Sleeve Coupling
Sleeve Coupling with Labeled Parts
A sleeve coupling is nothing but a thick hollow cylinder/tube called a sleeve or bushing. The sleeve is manufactured keeping in mind the diameter of the shaft so that the shaft fits perfectly into the sleeve. The driving and driven shafts (both shafts) are then inserted into each side of the sleeve. There are also two or more threaded holes on the sleeve as well as at both ends of the shaft so that when the bolts are inserted they do not move in the longitudinal direction. The keyway and key also ensure that the shaft and sleeve do not slip.
Sleeve couplings have a lesser number of parts and are easy to manufacture.
Application-
They are used where the shafts do not require any alignment and the load capacity is light to medium loads.
2. Split Sleeve Coupling
Split sleeve coupling with the parts labeled.
In split sleeve coupling, the sleeve or sleeve is not a single distinct part but is split into two. The sleeve is semi-cylindrical and then sleeved on the shaft. Threaded holes are provided on the sleeve so that the two shafts can be connected with steel bolts or studs.
The special feature of this coupling is that it can be assembled and disassembled without changing the position of the shafts.
Application-
They are used for medium to heavy loads at moderate speeds.
3. Flange Coupling
Flange Coupling with Labeled Parts
Flange coupling is also an easy-to-manufacture coupling similar to sleeve coupling. Here, both sleeves have flanges on both sides. Both flanges contain the same number of threaded holes for bolting. The flanges are then connected together with bolts and nuts. Key sections are also provided on the hub and shaft to avoid slipping situations.
A tapered key is used here. This ensures that the hub does not loosen or move backwards and remains connected to the shaft.
Applications
-Flange couplings are used in medium and heavy duty industrial applications.
